Abstract:
ESDU PERF RT 1/2 illustrates, through a worked example, the correction of measured rate of climb data to conditions of aircraft weight, engine speed and atmosphere different from those at the time of test. It explains that ideally a fixed relationship should be chosen between equivalent airspeed and weight and retained for all climbs. However, provided maximum rate of climb is being measured the error in using a fixed schedule of equivalent airspeed and height is negligible. Based on the relationship developed in ESDU PERF RT 1/0 the graph plots rate of climb divided by root relative temperature and, in this case, jet pipe temperature divided by root relative temperature although it could equally have been turbine inlet temperature or propeller pitch angle. Those values have to be obtained at one value of weight divided by relative pressure to which the graph applies.Indexed under:
