This Item considers the selection of suitable adhesives and adherends in bonded joints, and compares these joints to other fastening methods, such as bolted joints or welding, that are currently available. Notes on the examination of loads and stresses in the bonded assembly and common modes of failure in conventional bonded joint designs are given. A summary of bonded joint design, including a list of advantages and disadvantages of adhesively bonded joints is also provided along with a worked example.
