Estimation of nacelle and flap effects on low-speed aerodynamic centre and zero-lift pitching moment of transport aircraft (tail-off)
Abstract:
ESDU TM 200 provides simple empirical methods for the estimation of nacelle and flap effects on aerodynamic centre position and zero-lift pitching moment of transport-type aircraft configurations (low-speed and tail-off), for use in the preliminary design stage. The methods are based upon data obtained from wind-tunnel tests and flight tests, for a range of transport aircraft and wind-tunnel models.
In order to determine the overall zero-lift pitching moment for a transport-type aircraft (tail-off), these effects can be combined with estimates obtained from ESDU 87001 (for wing pitching moment coefficient at zero lift at subcritical Mach numbers) and ESDU 89042 (for the zero-lift pitching-moment coefficient for a wing due to the addition of a fuselage).
