ESDU STRUCT 00.06.04
Shear centre of circular arc section.
Abstract:
ESDU Struct 00.06.04 gives a graph that allows the distance of the shear centre from the centre-line of the wall of a circular-arc section, measured along the axis of symmetry of the section, to be readily determined. The ratio of that distance to the radius of the section is plotted against an angle that is half that subtended by the arc. The derivation of the data assumes that the wall section is both uniform and that its thickness is small, being no more than a tenth of the radius of the arc, and that the variation of shear stress across that thickness can be neglected. The term shear centre is defined in ESDU Struct 00.06.00 which explains that it is a property that depends only on the geometry of the section and is therefore independent of the mode of support of a beam of that cross section.Indexed under:
