Introduction to the measurement of thrust in flight. (Air breathing ducted-flow engines.)
Abstract:
ESDU 69006 introduces the subject of in-flight measurement of thrust of turbo-jet and turbo-fan engines. The measurement of thrust in flight is required for two reasons: (i) so that, from the contributions of the engines to propulsion and to lift, the external forces on the airframe may be determined, and (ii) so that the actual performance of the installed engine may be compared with estimated performance. ESDU 69006 provides a framework of definitions of airframe drag and powerplant thrust which are an essential part of any system of thrust and drag accounting. Methods of measurement and associated data are given in ESDU 69007 and ESDU 69008 respectively.Indexed under:
