ESDU 23005
Tyre slipping on dry, paved surfaces
Abstract:
In common with all the tyre modelling in the ESDU canon, development of the relation between slipping and skidding forces depends on recognition of the existence of a layer of low-strength visco-elastic material in the interface between the bulk of rubber in the tyre footprint and the surface on which the tyre moves. In the case of the slipping tyre, it is supposed that all the power lost is dissipated in the process of detaching and re-attaching the interface membrane from and to the tread at rolling speed.
The empirical models developed are shown to have a strong correlation with experimental measurements.
